Healthy Recipes Ideas 2022

After a whole holiday season of feasting, it’s a good idea to balance out all the meats and sweets with some healthier-choice food. While healthy food may have a bad reputation for being bland or boring, that doesn’t have to be the case. With ingredients like fresh vegetables and fish, you can have meals that are tasty, filling and high in nutrients.

We’ve put together some inspiration for nutritious recipes that are low in sugar and saturated fat, but are equally yummy and delicious. Here are 5 recipes to cleanse your body and kick start 2022 with:

1. Old Cucumber Soup

January is going to be a rainy month in Singapore, so get cosy at home with a warm bowl of soup. This no-frills soup recipe not only warms your tummy, but is also quite nostalgic for many of us, taking us back to our childhood days. After all, being packed with protein and fiber, it’s no wonder that this dish was a favourite with our parents and grandparents.

Preparation Time: 2 hours 15 minutes. Serves 3-4.

2. One Pot Chicken and Rice with Mushroom

Opening up your rice cooker, the first thing that you’ll notice about this dish is how green it is. With Chye Sim, chives and ginger, every bite is incredibly refreshing and fragrant. The chicken thigh is marinated with oyster sauce, light soy sauce, white pepper and just a touch of sesame oil — nothing too greasy or oily. We used canned button mushrooms in this recipe, but you may also use rehydrated dried mushrooms or a different mushroom of your choice.

Preparation Time: 45 minutes. Serves 2-4.

3. Teochew Steamed White Pomfret

Packed with flavour yet low in calories, this recipe takes as little as 25 minutes to prepare. In fact, steaming this any longer than 10 minutes puts your fish at risk of drying out and overcooking. When ready, you’ll really be able to taste the freshness of the fish, while enjoying the aromatic flavours of the ginger slices, mushrooms and salted plums. Garnish with spring onions and coriander before serving.

4. Salad (3 Ways)

In a compilation of healthy recipes, there’s always space for a salad recipe (or three!). However, these salad ideas are more than just your typical grilled chicken caesar salad, bringing you creative and delicious ways to add some greens to your diet.

Whether you go for the smoked duck pomegranate, roast chicken garden salad or the fully vegetarian air-fried salad with yogurt dressing, you can be sure it’ll be a great addition to your dinner table. To ensure it’s 100% healthy, watch out for how much salad dressing you pile on! A good gauge is to add just enough to taste, or if you want to be extra careful, measure out the sauce exactly to what our recipes state.

5. Steamed Cabbage Rolls

This dish is one for the books because it looks picture perfect, takes only a short time to prepare and tastes heavenly! The scallop sauce provides an umami burst and the clean taste of the cabbage balances it out. This is best served with a bowl of rice, with brown or wholegrain if you wish to pack on even more fiber.
