Years into the trend, we dare say that many Singaporeans will still lunge at anything with the label Salted Egg Yolk. So today’s recipe is a special one, which features not just ONE, but THREE different ways you can use Knorr Salted Egg Powder, made up of real egg yolks!
First up we have a crispy tofu with SEY dipping sauce which is really easy to make. After that we go onto deep frying chicken midwings, and coating them in a tasty sauce. Last but not least, a molten lava chocolate cake, with salted egg goodness in the middle of it all!
Easily available at your favourite grocer, Knorr Salted Egg Powder is a highly versatile product that can be used for many recipes, simplifying the process of making salted egg yolk dishes.

Crispy Fried Tofu with Salted Egg Yolk Dip
Servings: 4 pax
Cooking Time: 1 hour

Ingredients
Deep fried tofu:
- 2 blocks (300g each block) pressed tofu
- 1 cup rice flour (for coating)
- 3 chilli padis (chopped)
- Handful of curry leaves
- Oil for deep frying
Salted egg yolk dip:
- 4 tbsp Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder
- 4 tbsp Japanese mayo
- 1 tsp English mustard
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tbsp Thai chilli sauce
- 2 tbsp water
- Pepper to taste
Steps
- Cut tofu into 8 cubes per block and dry them on a paper towel. Remove as much moisture as you can.
- Coat tofu cubes in rice flour and dust off excess.
- Heat oil in pan for deep-frying.
- Deep-fry coated tofu cubes at around 180°C until golden brown. Drain and set aside.
- Lightly fry chopped chilli padis and curry leaves until crispy, drain and set aside.
- Combine Japanese mayo, mustard, Thai chilli sauce and lime juice.
- Stir in Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder, water and pepper to taste. Mix until you get a smooth dip, then microwave it for 45 seconds.
- Serve fried tofu with a sprinkle of crispy chilli padis and curry leaves along with salted egg yolk dip on the side.
Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken Wings
Servings: 6 pax

Deep fried mid wings:
- 450g (est 12 wings) chicken midwings
- ¼ cup Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder
- ¾ cup plain flour
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- ½ tsp baking powder
- Oil for deep frying
Salted egg yolk sauce:
- 4 tbsp Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder
- ½ tsp Knorr Chicken Powder (optional)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 80g butter
- 2 tbsp milk powder
- 4 chili padis (chopped)
- Handful of curry leaves
- Pepper to taste
Steps
- Combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder and Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder to form batter of chicken mid wings.
- Coat chicken mid wings with batter.
- Heat oil in pan for deep-frying.
- Deep-fry coated chicken mind wings at 180°C, until golden brown. Drain and set aside on paper towels.
- Combine sugar, Knorr Chicken Powder, Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder and milk powder in a bowl.
- Melt butter and add chili padi and curry leaves in a pan at low heat. Fry until fragrant.
- Add Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder mixture to the panr and combine well, add pepper to taste.
- Toss the deep fried chicken mid wings into the salted egg yolk mixture and serve.
Salted Egg Yolk Molten Lava Chocolate Cake
Servings: 4 pax

Ingredients
Salted egg yolk filling:
- 30g Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powder
- 40g melted unsalted butter
- 10g cornstarch
- 10g milk powder
- 50g evaporated milk
- 40g icing sugar
Lava cake batter:
- 60g plain flour
- 80g unsalted butter
- 140g dark chocolate chips
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 100g caster sugar
- 20g cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp espresso powder (optional)
Steps
- Combine Knorr Salted Egg Yolk Powdercorn starch, milk powder and icing sugar together.
- Combine melted butter and evaporated milk, then add in salted egg yolk mixture. Mix well.
- Pour mixture into molds and freeze for at least 4 hours.
- Melt dark chocolate and butter in a microwave at 10 second intervals.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, egg yolk and caster sugar together.
- Sift in the plain flour and cocoa powder, mix until combined. Do not overmix.
- Add in dark chocolate mixture slowly and combine well. Optional to add espresso powder.
- Coat ramekins with butter and cocoa powder.
- Pour batter into ramekins until ½ full. Place frozen salted egg yolk center in the middle of the ramekins and fill the remekins to the top with batter.
- Bake in preheated oven at 210°Cfor 11-12 minutes until the top has set.
- Leave lava cake to cool for several minutes then run a knife around the ramekins.
- Invert ramekins onto plates to release.
- Dust with icing sugar or cocoa powder and serve.
