Easy Fusion Pasta Recipes

Pasta is one of the most versatile ingredients to cook with, but perhaps you’re feeling tired of the usual bolognese, carbonara and aglio olio. Well, fusion versions are a good option to spice up your home cooked pasta menu!

These 7 fusion pasta recipes will surely surprise and wow your taste buds with an Asian flare and in an affordable way. Plus, like the pasta dishes you’re used to making at home, these are easy to make, with sauces that you probably have lying around the kitchen.

1. Korean Kimchi Pasta

In this recipe, we combine the intense, savoury flavours of kimchi and pork belly with the richness of cooking cream and thick, flat pasta noodles. Bursting with flavour, it sure tastes as good as it looks. Better yet, if you complete the presentation with sesame seeds and nori seaweed, no one will guess that it only takes 15 minutes to complete.

Another reason why we love this simple recipe is how versatile it is. Whether you serve it to wow a dinner guest or as a late night guilty supper, this dish is sure to please.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes. Serves 2 pax.

2. Tom Yum Prawn Pasta

Since it’ll be some time before we can fly to Thailand to savour its delicious cuisine, bring Thailand to your dinner table! Tom Yum is known for its great deal of spices which gives an impression that it is difficult to cook, but this recipe proves otherwise. In as little as 15 minutes, you can serve this sour, spicy and flavourful delight to your dinner table.

This dish is so YUM-my, it is SHRIMP-ly one of the best fusion pasta dishes. It tastes like a restaurant-standard pasta that nobody would guess you only took 15 minutes to prepare.

3. Chilli Crab Linguine

This fusion is quite a well-known one in Singapore, selling in many restaurants at exorbitant prices. But what if we told you that you could make this perfect marriage between Chilli Crab and pasta at home, in just 30 minutes?

One of the great parts about making this dish yourself is that you can adjust the sweetness and spice to your preference, so you can taste the perfect sweet, spicy and luscious sauce coated on every strand of linguine.

4. Miso XO Mushroom Pasta

Bookmark this recipe as this is, hands down, one of the easiest yet tastiest dishes here. There is no need for any meat in this recipe as the miso, XO sauce and parmesan cheese provide a substantial taste profile, but do feel free to add your own protein! We recommend minced pork or chicken as they compliment the sauce really well.

Expect layers upon layers of riveting flavours — spicy and smokey from the XO sauce, umami and salty from the miso. We guarantee that this simple recipe will be a conversation topic on the dinner table.

5. Chilli Pan Mee Pasta

Making hand-pulled noodles takes lots of practice to master, whereas Pasta noodles are super easy to cook and retain the chewy texture we love. For a more authentic Pan Mee feel, use wider pasta noodles like tagliatelle pasta or linguini.

That said, the chilli paste is key in this dish, a heavenly blend of dried shrimps, garlic, chillies, belacan and shallots. If you whip this up for your family, everybody will be asking for seconds!

6. Lao Gan Ma Aglio Olio

Lao Gan Ma and Hua Tiao wine are known for their umami goodness, which we’ve discovered serves as a flavourful sauce for a pasta base. There’s also a bit of a hack for those with almost-finished bottles of Lao Gan Ma. If that’s you, use some pasta water to “wash” all of the leftover bits in the bottle to clear it out — we want the ultimate amount of flavour here!

Preparation Time: 15 minutes. Serves 2 pax.

7. Hae Bee Hiam Aglio Olio

If you are a fan of Hae Bee Hiam, also known as dried shrimps spicy sambal, look no further because this pasta dish will surely be an interesting delight for your tastebuds. Hae Bee Hiam is no stranger to the world of fusion cuisine, and for good reason, too.

This intensely fragrant sambal works so well in fusion foods, you just have to try it to believe it. Take a trip to flavour town with the strong aroma, umami and spice of the widely-used condiment. Feel free to add more chilli flakes if you want it to be spicier!
