Wonton with Spicy Sesame Oil – 辣油云吞

As part of CNY family gatherings, it’s always exciting to cook as many delicacies as possible for the celebration. So without further ado, here’s some wontons to symbolize the bringing in of good luck to the 牛年 (year of the ox)! 

The wontons are great family fun if you get the family involved with making them. This recipe is made better using Knife’s Spicy Sesame Oil for the chilli oil in this dish. We would garnish the dish with scallions, sesame seeds & chilli strands.

Ingredients:

  1. 300g minced pork

  2. 100g fish paste

  3. 350g Prawns (cleaned and deveined, sliced into halves)

  4. 20g dried shrimps (pre-soak, toasted and chopped)

  5. 5 pieces water chestnuts (finely chopped)

  6. 1 tbsp Knife Thai Fish Sauce

  7. 1 tbsp Knife Pure Sesame Oil

  8. ½ tsp Salt and pepper

  9. 16 pieces Wonton skin

  10. Scallions for garnishing (chopped finely)

  11. Ingredients

    Spicy Chilli oil ingredients:

    1. 1 bottle 49ml of Knife Spicy Sesame Oil

    2. 1 tsp minced garlic

    3. 1 tsp grated ginger

    4. 1 tsp sesame seeds

    5. 2 tsp sugar

    6. ½ tsp salt

    7. 2 tbsp red vinegar (to your preference)

    8. 1 tbsp Knife Thai Fish Sauce

    9. 2 tbsp of sesame seeds (for final garnishing)

    Steps:

    1. In a heatproof bowl, minced garlic & ginger, sesame seeds, sugar and salt, set aside.

    2. In a small pot, heat up Knife Spicy Sesame Oil. When oil begins to smoke a little, pour oil into the spice mixture. Mix well.

    3. In the same bowl, add red vinegar and Knife Thai Fish Sauce and mix well.

    4. In a big mixing bowl, combine, minced meat, fish paste, dried shrimps & water chestnuts. Mix well and season with Knife Pure Sesame Oil, Knife Thai Fish Sauce, salt & pepper. Set aside.

    5. Take one wonton skin, scope 1-2 tsp mince mixture & place it on the wanton skin, complete with a half piece of prawn. Wrap and seal wanton. Repeat the process with the rest of the wanton skins.

    6. In a pot of boiling water, blanch the wantons until cooked, drain and transfer immediately to the serving bowl.

    7. Drizzle Spicy Sesame oil mixture over wantons, garnish with scallions, sesame seeds & chilli strands.
