High protein Christmas recipes

As we enter the holiday season, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to make. Holiday feasts are known for being super unhealthy at times (we can relate!), but the good news is that your Christmas feast doesn’t have to set you back on your fitness journey.

If you’re looking for something healthy to fuel your fitness journey, we’ve got some delicious high-protein Christmas recipe ideas for you.

More healthy yet delicious Christmas recipes to help you get through the holidays:

1. Honey and Bourbon Ham

First up: We have a Christmas classic that not many people know is protein-packed. Honey Baked Ham makes its appearance on most Christmas dinners, but here we have a recipe that will level up your Christmas feast. This recipe is fairly simply, all you have to do is brush on the sauce mixture and bake it in the oven. This dish is surely a classy and exceptional way to celebrate the holidays!

2. Roast Turkey with Apple Sage Stuffing

Another timeless classic, Roast Turkey is a holiday favourite, spanning across Thanksgiving and Christmas Festivities. But if you want something that is even more special, try roasting it in apple sage stuffing for a more unique and aromatic dish.

This recipe is ideal for those who are looking for a lean cut of meat. A 3-ounce serving of skinless turkey meat contains 26 grams of protein, barely 2 grams of fat, and under 1 gram of saturated fat. This makes sheer perfection for those who don’t want anything too heavy on their plate.

3. Herb-Crusted Lamb Rack

A crowd favourite blend of parsley, oregano, rosemary, lemon zest, slathered on a tender and juicy rack of lamb. Lamb is a red meat that is chock full of essential vitamins and minerals and is especially high in protein. One 3-ounce serving of lamb has 23 grams of protein, almost half of the recommended daily intake for adults.

A diet high in protein is ideal for athletes, people seeking to lose weight, and people recovering from surgery or injury.

After the lamb is seared, the blend of herbs creates that flavourful combination of goodness. Serve this unforgettable Herb-crusted Lamb Rack with potatoes and asparagus for an undoubtedly impressive meal.

5. Scallops with Mango Puree Canape

Canapés are an excellent appetizer for your friends and family during the Christmas holidays! This recipe is as easy as pie, starting by prepping pickled cucumbers, making a puree using honey mangos, and then searing scallops using butter (who doesn’t love butter and scallops?). In fact, scallops are a wonderful source of lean protein, containing 17g in a 3-ounce (6 scallops) serving

Use serving spoons as a vessel to hold the tasty treat for an IG-worthy presentation that tastes as good as it looks!

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole Japanese cucumber (seeds removed and diced)
  • 3 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 3 whole Honey mangos (skin and seed removed)
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 250g Frozen boiled scallop meat
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  1. Remove seeds and dice Japanese cucumbers. Transfer to a bowl and add apple cider vinegar, mix well and set aside.
  2. Skin and deseed 3 mangoes and add into a food processor. Blend until smooth.
  3. In a pan over medium heat, add unsalted butter. Add in defrosted scallops, season with salt and pepper. Sear scallops until brown on both sides.
  4. In individual serving spoons, add mango puree, pickled cucumbers, seared scallops and garnish with a mint leaf.

6. Christmas Porchetta Recipe with Black Garlic Stuffing

This Christmas Porchetta is essentially a delicious, rolled-up sio bak with an Asian twist to the stuffing; filled with indulgent flavours from black garlic, chicken liver and herbs. This recipe is a great way to add protein to your holiday meal. Pork and chicken are both quality sources of protein, and chicken liver is jam-packed with valuable vitamins and minerals, and most importantly iron. The complex flavours — smokiness, earthiness, fragrance, and intense umami flavour — will blow your guests away.

P.S. We’ve also got a Christmas Pork Roll with Asian Stuffing recipe for you, using lap cheong, rice, mushrooms and XO seafood sauce for a different flavour.

7. Sous vide Miso Roast Beef

What better way to impress your guests than with a perfect roast dish? Sous vide provides precision, prevents moisture loss, and guarantees the best-tasting roast you’ve ever cooked. The science behind says that the enzymatic action around 54.5°C can give the meat an incredibly tender texture. With the addition of miso, miso, mirin, and sake, it’s a perfect east-meets-west fusion Christmas dish.

Have you noticed how the list includes Western, Asian and Fusion dishes? Well, this Coffee Ribs recipe is astonishingly all of them! So intense yet so balanced, adding a thick taste of coffee to the meaty ribs is perfect with a mix of multiple flavours.

We used OLDTOWN Coffee to create the sauce, and this simple step really makes this recipe unique for your Christmas feast. Once added, simply stir until the sauce thickens before adding the pork ribs. We added chilli padi to give it a bit of kick, adding to the flavour explosion that will leave guests wanting more!
