Tiny golden bags stuffed with juicy minced pork meat and prawns, then deep fried for that maximum chip crisp exterior. Resembling the money bags carried by the Chinese in the past, these fried wontons are a symbolism of wealth and prosperity. With pre made wonton wrappers readily available in supermarkets, who knows you might just be on your way to striking it rich.
As tempting as it can be, be generous but not overly generous with the fillings. You don’t want your wontons to brown even before your fillings have cooked. Add a simple pop of colour along with a delicate hint of onion flavour to every bite. A simple strand of chive leaf will do the trick. Seal the edges of the wrapper with water and fasten the strand of chive leaf firmly at the top of the wonton to secure all that delicious “loots” in your golden bag.

50square wonton wrappers
Koo Chye (chives), (soak hot water for 1 minute)
2Japanese cucumbers
250g minced pork
150g prawns (deveined and chopped)
50g water chestnuts (peel and chop finely)
1tbsp oyster sauce
1tsp fish sauce
1tsp soy sauce
tsp sugar
1tsp fresh grated ginger
1tsp fresh grated garlic
1tbsp sesame oil
1tbsp corn flour
Pepper to taste



Mix filling ingredients together.
Mark as complete

Wrap 1 tsp filling in wonton wrapper. Wet the wonton skin around the filling and seal into a bundle.
Mark as complete

Tie chives around each bundle. Repeat for the rest
Mark as complete

Deep fry the bundles upright for around 3 minutes until golden, turnover and fry the top for 1-2 minutes.
Mark as complete

Drain on kitchen paper.
Mark as complete

Serve with sliced cucumber.
Mark as complete
