Herbal Sea Bass – 药材鲈鱼

A super simple dish that busy families can cook under 30 minutes, this herbal Sea Bass recipe has just 5 (yes, five!) steps that has a delicate taste and a has beneficial properties like improving blood circulation and dispelling wind too!

All you need for the sauce is water, rice wine, dang gui, chuan xiong and red dates, and a certain about of Huiji Waist tonic, and you’ll be enjoying this savory dish in no time. Top it off with wolfberries for that finishing touch.

  1. 1 sea bass (small)

  2. 6 red dates

  3. 5g dang gui

  4. 5g chuan xiong

  5. 5g wolfberries

  6. 10g ginger slices

  7. 1 cup water

  8. ½ cup rice wine

  9. 20ml Huiji waist tonic

  10. 2 tbsp light soy sauce (adjust to preference)


  1. Add 10g ginger slices to cavity of sea bass

  2. To a sauce pot add 1 cup water, ½ cup rice wine, 5g dang gui, 5g chuan xiong, 6 red dates, 20ml Huiji waist tonic and 1-2 tbsp light soy sauce (adjust to preference).

  3. Simmer for 10 mins, add sauce and herbs to sea bass.

  4. Add 5g wolfberries and steam for 8-10 minutes (depending on size)
