8 Easy Zi Char-Style Recipes, Including Mee Goreng, Beef Hor Fun and More

Zi Char Recipes

For many families, Zi Char is go-to for gatherings because of its huge variety and scrumptious portions. Here are 8 Zi Char recipes that you can enjoy with your loved ones, handmade and piping hot in the comfort of home.

1. Beef Hor Fun

Beef Hor Fun is a hot favourite at any Zi Char stall, featuring lightly-charred beef gravy and tender slices of beef, all over a bed of smooth hor fun. In our recipe, we avoid a rubbery texture by coating the beef slices before searing for that silky, tender bite. Not to worry if you don’t have a wok — our 8-step recipe works with a large cooking pan as well.

With this recipe, you can cook it at home and capture that same  hot, crunchy shiok-ness!

3. Sambal Kang Kong

Do you have a friend who hates vegetables? Maybe this spicy and smoky dish might just convert them.

With the homemade sambal belachan, this recipe delivers the heat that makes it a popular Zi Char dish. A pro-tip is to ensure that the wok is smoking hot when the kang kong goes in, and cook in small portions to prevent your delicious stir-fry sambal kang kong from becoming spinach soup!
